Chapter Six
Of course, Jordan had told her only half of what Larry said. If she was already losing it thinking they’d be stuck in here for a while longer, he couldn’t imagine how she’d freak out if she knew the elevator could start swaying while they worked on it.
At least she seemed to have the claustrophobia under control. Well, under better control than she had at first. He admired her persistence, even if he couldn’t endorse her driving skills.
Georgetown Law. That was a damn good school. Where did she work now? He turned to ask her but stopped in his tracks. She’d stood and was currently removing her panty hose.
Was it just him, or did this little event seem to be happening in slow motion? Like those crazy-hot lifeguards running in the opening credits of Baywatch.
He couldn’t help himself. His mouth began to water, and his palms started sweating. She rolled one leg of the stockings down her toned thigh, over her knee, and toward her shapely calf.
Holy hell.
Jordan had been around the block with his share of attractive women. Models and actresses and dancers. Blondes and brunettes, a couple of redheads. He loved dating women. Taking them to romantic dinners, walks around the monuments at night, beach vacations. But at some point, it’d stopped being exciting. It had become—he hated to say it—routine.
So why was this woman’s simply revealing her naked legs so incredibly sexy?
“Sorry, should have done that hours ago,” she said. “I had a run in my hose.” She threw her nylons into her big purse, like what she’d just done had been nothing.
Hell, he’d seen stripteases that had turned him on less.
Get control of yourself, Jordan.
He couldn’t let her see him like this. One look at his face and she’d know. He pried his eyes away from her legs, coughed and turned—
And ran right into the wall. He cursed and his hand flew to his nose, stars swimming in his eyes.
Smooth, Campbell.
“Ohmigod, are you okay?”
Whitney rushed over to him. When she placed her hand on his arm, though, he thought he was going to lose it.
“Fine, fine. Stupid.”
“Excuse me?”
“Nothing,” he said lamely. “Did you have to do that in here?”
“What?” Her voice held a confused tone.
That’s right, he thought with disgust. Blame her for being sexy. It’s her fault you’re a pervert. One look at her legs and he was as awkward as a teenager with his first crush. She’d said enough about how he was the wrong guy for her. He had to get control of himself, stop making advances toward her. And for God’s sake, stop staring.
Then his cell phone rang, and he thanked the universe. He didn’t care who was calling, so long as it got his attention away from Whitney and her hotness.
“This is Jordan.” But when his father’s voice boomed out of the phone, he started rethinking his appreciation. “Dad, hey.”
Without so much as a greeting, John Campbell launched into a tirade about a client Jordan had recently referred to another colleague.
